Damage Types

When in combat, it looks relatively simple-- you try to hit guy, he tries to hit you back. Whoever hits more, wins!

If only.

In hellMOO, damage is divided up into many types. These are beat, slash, stab, bullet, electric, acid, burn, radiation, cold, laser, and explode. The gear command will tell you what damagetypes your weapons possess as well as their magnitude.

Frequently you will also hear these words used with "soaks." Soaks are the defensive analogue to damage type. When you use the gear command it'll tell you what soaks you have in each damage type. The higher the numbers, the greater capacity for preventing that kind of damage.

By keeping on top of your weapons' damagetypes, your enemies' damagetypes, and your armor's soaks, you can exert a good deal of control over a fight. According to rumor, though, there's a variety of creature out there which has the capacity to deal unsoakable damage...so watch out!
