Diseases and Afflictions

HellMOO features a wide variety of bodily maladies, from broken limbs to avian flu. Naturally, being ill carries stat penalties. Some illnesses (like worms and mudbutt to name a couple) are mostly annoying, while others are more serious and will warrant immediate attention and treatment.

One of the first diseases new players tend to encounter is black lung (not the coal miner's disease, but tuberculosis). This can be treated a number of ways. Firstly, you can try to get better on your own. You have a recurring chance of shaking the disease off, so provided it doesn't kill you, you will eventually get better without any extra help. Secondly, if you have a decent medic score, you can try to treat it with a hypodermic of allomycin (a powerful broad-spectrum antibiotic available from Meds-4-Less for $100). Thirdly, you can go to the free clinic in Princeton General hospital, located in Slagtown. Dr.Octagon can treat Black Lung, and some other diseases. Other players may be skilled in medic, and willing to help.

Most other diseases and afflictions follow the same general pattern of treatment using drugs and treatments specific to the disease in question. For a few diseases (like AIDS) you have no chance of getting better on your own and must seek other options.

Finally, if all else fails, a freshly-cloned body won't have any afflictions at all.

List of Diseases

Black Lung

Disease caught often in the Orphanage. Cured by either going to Sister Agnes (-agnes heal), getting an allomycin hypo from the Meds 4 Less in Freedom City, or going to St. God's Memorial Hospital in Slagtown. You can also shake off the disease if your endurance is high enough.

Zombie Rot

Zombie Rot is a disease. It can be caught from the attacks of zombies, from eating Zombie Rot-infected food such as zombie brains or zombie meat, or from bile. To prevent infection from bile you should be carrying a towel of wash yourself. Its symptoms include coldness of the extremities. The corpses of characters that die from zombie rot become zombies if left intact. Aside from your inevitable death after being infected with rot, the only cure for the disease is a mortilex hypo administered by a capable medic.

Thriller

Makes you dance and hum the thriller song. Spreads from player to player as they sing and dance. Minor annoyance.

Cancer

Cancer is a disease contracted by going about irradiated far to long. The chance of catching it presumably goes up the longer you are irradiated and the amount of radiation points you have. A cure can be manufactured by players, and a recipe for it can be acquired by perhaps speaking to one of the many doctors in the world.

AIDS

AIDS is a sexually transmitted disease. There's a chance you will catch it even if you're using a condom. A one-time cure can be gotten through raping an orphan. Other than that, no other cure is known in Freedom City.

Candiru Fish

Can be contracted by peeing in water. The fish swims up your urethra and lodges itself there. Can be cured by death or waiting a while. Gives negative to your fuck score.

Broken Bones

Cured easiest by insta-cast or first-aid kit. (Available at Meds 4 Less.) Trying to move with such an injury results in shock and loss of health. Heavy bashing weapons like sledgehammers and the like easily cause these damages, and falling from above 10 meters. Having a mutation like lithodermis works as protection, and the right soaking gear as well.

Vampirism

You get this from being bit by a vampire. NPC vampires are often found wandering around slagtown and FC itself at night. Eventually sunlight will kill you and you must drink blood to survive. Can be cured by player-crafted medicine.

Choking

New players usually choke on penis enlargement pills, but there are other ways to start choking. The cure is a helpful soul performing the heimlich <target> on you.

Drug Addiction

Happens to nicotine and methamphetamine users. Debuffs stats and causes other annoying effects. Cold turkey seems to be a cure, takes some time.

Djerk

You're a djerk.

Mental Illnesses

These are many and varied - listed here, requiring high medical skill to analyze and cure. Often gotten from tampering with certain items.
