Emoting

Emoting is the term for any kind of posing action which makes your character do something non-functional in the room, like smiling, laughing, nodding, etc. There are several ways to do this.

The simplest is to just type various emote commands (also sometimes called socials) -- there are many of these, including: smile, laugh, grin, burp, eye, stare, etc. Some are obvious, and some are hidden easter-eggs. Most can be given a target, like smile Gilmore to smile at Gilmore.

Another easy way is to use the : command, aka emote. Typing this:

:points at the dead chobo and laughs!

would produce in your location the text:

Gilmore points at the dead chobo and laughs!

Note that this command simply reproduces whatever text you give it -- the above would work even if there's no dead chobo in the room. You're probably thinking, Hey I could use this to fool people! You probably could; for instance you could emote pulling a grenade. Doing this is considered very rude and lame. If we hear of you acting like an idiot in this way, you'll probably be sorry you thought of it. Just don't.

There's also the . command, aka pose. Typing this:

.point at dead and laugh

would produce in your location the text:

Gilmore points at the dead chobo and laughs!

Unlike emote, the pose command DOES check for objects in the room that match what you type, and attempts to convert verb tenses and so forth to make a sensible message. Experiment with it to find out more about how it works.

Social Commands

This is a list of all the social commands in HellMOO. Most of them are pretty straightforward.

nod/yes - Nod your head 'yes'. Certain NPCs, like shopkeepers, listen for this. shake/no - Shake your head 'no'. Certain NPCs, like shopkeepers, listen for this.

smile, growl, wince, poke, sigh, rub, frown, cringe, whine, pinch, comfort, grunt, grin, bow, point, blink, pout, leer, laugh, scoff, ogle, smooch, smirk, chortle, giggle, scowl, peer, slurp, prod, squeeze, chuckle, thumb, glare, bird, vomit, nudge, snort, drool, sniff, flip, burp, squint, wave, slobber, scream, lick, fart, pet, hug, shake, cheer, whistle, gulp, pat, eye, tickle, grimace, clap, yelp, wist, brow, snuggle, curtsey, grumble, squeal, tug, kiss, cuddle, shiver, moan, sneer, push, blush, groan, cackle, whimper, glance, buh, wink, spit, salute, shrug, sulk, chackle, applaud, stare, recoil, purr, snicker, cry, yawn, gasp, fondle/molest/grope, obama

Most of these can be performed on something: ie, nod Necantrophe and molest dog, etc. Try what seems logical.
